What I've learnt about video production through cooking
I enjoy cooking for family and friends, and over the years I’ve learnt that the same dish can feel completely different depending on how it is prepared and presented. You can follow the same recipe with the same ingredients, but if the light in the kitchen is poor, if the food is cut unevenly or if it ends up piled untidily on the plate, the overall experience simply doesn’t work.
For me, video production at a conference webcast is very similar. The content is always the “recipe” – the lectures, discussions and presentations. But how this content is captured on camera decides whether the webcast feels clear and professional or flat and uninspiring. Please note: With this configuration, the focus is on the speaker at the lectern – you will not get any shots of the audience or the activity at the sides of the stage.
